Delft-based firm Jeanne Dekkers Architecture was awarded the commission of designing Akrrum’s community school. From among many interested firms, five were selected to present their views and from among these, Jeanne Dekkers Architecture won the round and got to realize the project.
Based on its clear views on design in the built up environment the firm has realized many high-profile buildings and this was an essential assessment factor. The firm seeks and finds the responses best fitting each commission. Its approach values aspects such as ‘looking for and listening to’ the location, the brief and the purpose and background of the client and the user and being receptive to invisible factors. In addition, Jeanne Dekkers – in accordance with the client’s wishes – created a sustainable design that focused on the way the building and the environment interact in a green setting. According to the selection committee, ‘the submitted design appealed to everybody’. Another plus was the dialogue between the design and the expressiveness of the building and the natural light incidence inside. This play of light and sun was highly appreciated as well.
