The police station on the edge of the Hengelo city centre houses the Hengelo Centre South Department, the District Office for Central and North-East Twente, and a cell complex. To ensure safety we expressly used separate circuits, one quietly merging into the next. The building consists of three sections. The entrance faces a pedestrian zone and a raised forecourt and lends access to a building section with public spaces. The informal character of the volume is due to its oval shape. The emergency staircase is almost sculpted onto the end façade. Appropriately, both the forecourt and the façade are clad in cobalt blue brick. The office volume located on the street side is more formal. A slight kink breaks the façade and indicates the position of the cell block beyond, which is situated on an ancient alley. The office strip is connected to the cell complex by a glass corridor. Touches of fresh colour in the interior of the police station stimulate, soothe and add space.
