For the Housing cooperation of Tiel, Jeanne Dekkers Architecture designs 41 Special apartments with a village-like character in the neighborhood of Buren. The idea of “village within a village” popped up, as a beautiful way of living in the green environment. The location of former nursing home is therefore designed into small-scale and differentiated urban plan, which has direct spatial relationship with adjacent streets in different ways. Seven independent ‘pavilions’ are playfully grouped around a central garden, with inclination in relation to the position of existing building and optimal daylight. The basic material for the facade, a light and dark brick, are derived from the surrounding neighborhood. However , the uniform application of material in all building components create their own identity for the new buildings. Parking is resolved at the edges of the plan and under two buildings, so the garden becomes car-free zone. The central garden in the heart of the plan also serve as a new, public space for the existing neighborhood. By ecological arrangement with green roof and bat-boxes, the garden is a pleasant place to stay for people and animals.
